I was in Vancouver for work and got really sick a day before I was supposed to return to Ottawa (stomach bug and fever) and to make things worse I was alone. I didn’t have any energy and wasn’t well enough to go and get some Advil because every time I got up, I felt like I was going to pass out. I called down at the front desk to see if someone could bring me some. They said they weren’t supposed to give Advil to any of the guests. At about 10:00pm that night, I couldn’t bear the fever anymore so I forced myself to go downstairs to get a taxi. I asked the individual, his name is Sis, at the entrance to get me a taxi to go to a pharmacy that was open. He saw that I wasn’t well and asked me what was wrong. I told him the whole situation. He made me sit down and told me to wait. He went and bought some Advil. I didn’t have any cash on me so I asked for his email address so that I could send him the money. He said that he would try and charge it to my room and if that didn’t work, he said it was ok and that I didn’t have to pay him back. He even brought me a glass of water to take the Advil. I went back up to my room to try and get some rest. I felt really weak because I hadn’t eaten anything all day. I couldn’t keep anything down and whatever was already in my system didn’t stay in very long. About 15 minutes after I came up there was a knock on my door. It was Sis with a bowl of chicken noodle soup, toast, and some peppermint tea. I honestly started crying because the whole day I felt really alone. He made me feel at home.
There aren’t many people who will do what Sis did and I am really thankful for it because had it not been for him, I would not have been able to get some sleep and I really don’t think I would have been well enough to fly the next day. He really is an angel and I think his kindness should be recognized and commended. Furthermore, he should be promoted.
I would never have thought that hotel staff would go as far as he did.
Thank you so much, Sis.
