May 2006: Rashid Khan of Vancouver Taxi

After a three week long vacation in Canada, I, along with my wife and children, was returning to Australia on the morning of April 26th this year. Rashid Khan was the cab driver who picked us up from the Hyatt Regency and took us to Vancouver airport. Upon arriving at the airport, I noticed that one of our bags was missing. I became very concerned and left my family at the airport and headed back to the hotel with Rashid. Rashid was kind enough to offer his telephone to me as well as provide me with the telephone number of the hotel. When I arrived at the hotel, the desk clerk told me that they had made a mistake with the second suitcase which they had accidentally place in storage. I recovered the suitcase and went back to Rashid’s cab. I was beginning to worry as there was not much time left before the flight departed. The driver took a shorter and less travelled route during the rush hour and managed to get me to the airport quickly.

What I would like to bring to your attention is that Rashid only charged me with a one way cab fare for the original trip from the hotel to the airport. Rashid instead that I should not pay him for the cab rides back and forth and said something along the lines of that he understood my concern and worry for losing a piece of baggage. He said, “This could even happen to me sir… you don’t worry about it!” I would like to bring to your attention the very kind conduct of your driver. My family has such wonderful memories of the pleasant people in Vancouver. However, my final memory of Vancouver in being with Rashid surpasses all over kind acts of hospitality that I came across.
