November 2008: Arif Ismail of Delta Vancouver Airport

My wife and I stayed at the Delta Airport Hotel in Richmond, BC from October 27, 2008 to October 31 and would like to recognize Arif- concierge department- for his outstanding service and hospitality.

This was our first trip to BC and did not know what to expect, but we were very favourably impressed and put at ease by Arif’s cordial, helpful and comfortable attitude. Not only did he supply us with maps of the area, bus connections and information on local seafood markets, but he offered us water bottles, umbrellas and if we purchased any seafood, offered to keep it in a freezer for us until we departed back to the States. After visiting North Vancouver, we wanted to visit Arif’s other recommendation- Steveston.

Arif again provided details on how to get to Steveston and before we boarded the bus, Arif came out to the bus station and offered to take us to Steveston after his shift at the hotel, which was just ending. What an enjoyable ride. Arif showed us the new ice skating arena for the 2010 Winter Olympics, discussed the positive housing market in the Richmond area and we traded stories of our respective countries. Upon arriving in Steveston, Arif gave us several recommendations for a fish n’ chips lunch. My wife and I settled on the Charthouse Restaurant, which had a great view, overlooking the channel and fishing boats. We also visited many fine souvenir and art stores in the area before settling down at the local coffee shop to recap our visit to Steveston. What a joy to see such a quaint fishing village. This is what we wanted to see from the very beginning!

Our trip to BC was made memorable, not only by the courteous and informative attitude of personnel at the Vancouver Visitor Centre and every bus driver that we encountered, but especially by Arif, who took the time to make us feel like VIP guests.
